City Council advances tax rate of $0.21113

With an increase in property values, the Schulenburg City Council proposed a slightly lower tax rate for the coming fiscal year at its regular meeting Monday,Aug. 16. CityAdministrator Tami Walker recommended the “voter approval rate” of $0.21113 per $100 of valuation.

Commissioners Court sets proposed tax rate, public hearings

The Fayette County Commissioners Court approved a proposed property tax rate for the 2023 budget at $0.44219 per $100 valuation, a decrease from the current rate of $0.4640. Any amount above $0.44219, known as the “voter approval tax rate,” would require an election.

On Monday, Aug. 8 at approximately 11:18 p.m., an officer with the Schulenburg Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 eastbound near mile marker 676 on a blue BMW sedan for a traffic violation.

Mateen gets life sentence for shooting of deputy

An Austin County jury found Shazizz Mateen guilty of the offense of aggravated assault on a public servant on Tuesday, Aug. 9 and Mateen was sentenced to life in prison and a $10,000 fine, according to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek.
