A “Clean-Up Fayette County Day” to address roadside litter was discussed at the Commissioners Court meeting on Thursday, April 14. Precinct 1 Commissioner McBroom said that people are just going to have to start picking up trash.

Victim escapes serious injury in local shooting

A Schulenburg man was shot in the leg late Thursday night, April 7, according to Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek. Brenek reported that 28-yearold Karl Jarmon Jr. was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. Jarmon was treated and subsequently released, Brenek said.

The seasonally-adjusted Texas unemployment rate for February 2022 was 4.7 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from January 2022, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. Fayette County’s rate (not seasonally adjusted) remained at 3.8 percent over that span.

The Shorthorn and Lady Horn varsities both brought home runner-up plaques from the District 28-2A track meet, held on Friday, April 8 in Ganado. In the junior varsity division, the Horns topped the field of seven schools while the Lady Horns placed third.

Early voting in City election starts April 25

Registered voters in Schulenburg can begin casting their ballots for the City Council election on April 25. Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted at the Fayette County Elections Office, 275 Ellinger Rd. in La Grange, as follows: • Monday, April 25 – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Library gets $5,000 grant from Tocker Foundation

The Schulenburg Public Library received a $5,000 grant for the year 2022 from the Tocker Foundation for books. The Tocker Foundation promotes Texas public libraries in communities of 12,000 or less.
