Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on eight arrests made by deputies from July 1-4. •On Friday July 1 at approximately 9:45 p.m., Deputy Austin Moore stopped a 2009 Toyota sedan near Flatonia.

The Schulenburg Police Department reported that the barbecue pits at Wolters Park, which are maintained by the City of Schulenburg and are open to the public, were damaged the night of Wednesday, June 22.

A system that should improve the efficiency and accuracy of reading the City of Schulenburg’s water meters was approved by the City Council at a special meeting on Monday, June 27.

School board OKs seven hirings, seven resignations

The hiring of seven new staff members was approved by the Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees. In addition, seven resignations were accepted and two campus transfers were OK’d. Action on all the moves came following an executive session to discuss personnel at a meeting last week.

A $20,000 grant awarded to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department for an automatic license plate reader system was approved by the Commissioners Court at its meeting on Thursday, June 23. It requires matching funds, which will come from the Sheriff’s Department Forfeiture Fund.
