After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Schulenburg Sausagefest returned to downtown this past Saturday, April 2. Along with an afternoon and evening of music, food, and refreshments, a total of 10 teams along with several individuals entered the variety of contests.

Bids approved for Civic Center, street project

Even with high price tags, work at two locations was deemed as urgently needed by the Schulenburg City Council. The aldermen unanimously approved a bid to replace the roof and walls of the Civic Center as well as voted 5-0 to hire a contractor to complete concrete work on Keuper Avenue.

Major damage to a home at the corner of South Main Street and Herder Avenue was averted thanks to an attentive passerby and the quick response of the Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department on March 31.

Sausagefest this Saturday

The seventh Sausagefest will take place in downtown Schulenburg this Saturday, April 2. North Main Street will be closed from Lyons Avenue west to Wolters Avenue and Upton Avenue will be closed from Anderson Street south to South Main Street.

Shorthorn senior Trent Mendez completes a squat at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Division 4 State Meet, held on Friday, March 25 in Abilene. He finished 10th in the 165-pound weight class with a total of 1,160 pounds (430 squat, 285 bench press, 445 dead lift).

Following an executive session during its meeting on Wednesday, March 23, the Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees approved contracts to districtwide staff and one new hire as well as accepted five resignations.
