School cases rise but closure avoided, for now

Schulenburg ISD wasn’t among the area school district that closed for a day last week amid the recent spike in COVID infections but the rise in cases has caused concern. “Over the last two weeks, we’ve definitely had a surge,” SISD Superintendent Duane Limbaugh said on Monday.

Filing for City, SISD seats gets underway this week

The filing period for anyone interested in running for a position on the Schulenburg City Council or Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees begins this week. The first day that applications for candidacy in both elections could be picked up was slated for Wednesday, Jan. 19.

COVID cases rising but hospitalizations low

Fayette County continues to see cases of both the Omicron variant and the Delta variant of COVID-19, according to the latest round of testing by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Region 7. In the 23-county region, a portion of cases remain the Delta variant.

‘Shattered Dreams’ program slated for Jan. 19

The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department will be putting on a “Shattered Dreams” program for students at Schulenburg ISD on Wednesday, Jan. 19. It will include a mock wreck scene with patients involved at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and College Street in front of the high school.
