Nelson gets life sentence for 2017 murder near La Grange

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that the murder trial of Dylan Nelson took place from Sept. 20-24 with the jury convicting the 25-year-old defendant. Nelson was found guilty of the 2017 murder of 43-year-old Jeremy Cornwell of La Grange.

Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department personnel work to spread out burning hay bales Sunday afternoon behind a building at 1103 Summit St. (Highway 90). SVFD arrived at the scene inside the city limits within 10 minutes of the call at 12:11 p.m.

County enacts burn ban, bid awarded for restroom project at Founders Park

The Fayette County Commissioners Court enacted a burn ban in Fayette County at an emergency meeting at 8:54 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23. The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Fayette County and allows a fine not to exceed $500 be assessed to violators.

SISD band hosting Marching Festival

This Saturday, Sept. 25, the Schulenburg ISD Band Department will be hosting its first-ever Shorthorn Marching Festival at David Husmann Memorial Stadium. Each band will present its UIL competitive shows and receive a 50-minute clinic with the judges on the field.
