‘Keep Schulenburg Beautiful’ kicks off ‘Fall Sweep’ program

“Keep Schulenburg Beautiful” members and volunteers got their “Fall Sweep” underway this past weekend with beautification efforts along North Main Street. It is part of the statewide campaign of “Keep Texas Beautiful” running from Sept. 11 through Nov. 20.

Prior to the start of a new fiscal year on Oct. 1, the current City of Schulenburg budget was amended with the approval of the City Council at Monday night’s regular meeting. “We had some unexpected events this year,” City Hall staffer Julie Cernosek said.

Only 26 years after the Wright Brothers made their first flight, Schulenburg, Texas, welcomed Carnation Badger the Flying Bull. The dairy yearling reached the Central Texas town after a 1,232-mile journey from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, on April 3, 1929.

Unemployment rates for state, area counties drop in August

In August, the seasonallyadjusted Texas unemployment rate was 5.9 percent, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from July 2021, according to the latest figures from the Texas Workforce Commission.

Tractor accident claims life of well-known local man

An active member of several local service organizations throughout his life, 81-year-old James Brossmann was found deceased as the result of an accident involving a tractor on Wednesday, Sept. 8. According to the Schulenburg Police Department report, a family member called in the mishap. Sgt.

County tax rate, budget approved

The Fayette County Commissioners Court adopted the County’s budget and set the tax rate at the regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9. The Court set the county’s tax rate at $0.4640 per $100 valuation, which is the same tax rate as last year and the year before.
