The first step to becoming part of the Texas Historical Commission’s Certified Local Government Program was taken by the Schulenburg City Council at its regular meeting Monday night, May 17.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office Narcotics K-9 Unit seized 17 kilos of cocaine during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near the Engle exit on Wednesday, May 12, according to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek. Sheriff Korenek reported that at approximately 12:35 p.m.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court began its meeting on Thursday, May 13 by signing two proclamations and a certificate of appreciation. The Court heard a presentation from Diverse Planning and Development principal Pix Howell on the issues of distributing water across a vast area.

Garden Club inducts officers at May 4 meeting

The Schulenburg Garden Club met on Tuesday, May 4 at First Baptist Church. This was the first meeting since January 2020 because of COVID, and members were welcomed by president Delia Jurica. Sadly, three members who have resigned due to special circumstances will be missed.

Council approves $100,000 EDC grant for Perdue

With the expectation that at least 25 new jobs will be created by a local plant expansion, the Schulenburg City Council unanimously approved a $100,000 grant from the Economic Development Corporation to Perdue Farms.

Schulenburg High senior Taylor Limbaugh placed third in extemporaneous persuasive speaking at the University Interscholastic League regional meet last month. She will compete in the UIL state speech meet, which is scheduled for May 25-26.

SHS grad working oversees sends ‘gifts’ to help during pandemic

COVID and Santa Claus aren’t words generally seen together but a Fayette County native has been playing that role since the pandemic began. Carman Kobza, a Schulenburg High graduate from Engle, is now the chief executive officer for a German company that manufactures medical equipment.
