NWS issues survey on Swiss Alp tornado

The National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio’s damage survey indicated an EF1 tornado touched down in the Swiss Alp area as part of the severe storms which swept over Fayette County on Tuesday, May 18. The tornado started at 6:42 p.m.

ID fraud indictments result from two SPD cases

The Fayette County Grand Jury handed down indictments earlier this month on two area men for fraudulent use or possession of identifying information as well as possession of a controlled substance. Both cases stemmed from Schulenburg Police Department investigations conducted in March.

Lux, Otto earn top honors in SHS Class of 2021

Regan Lux and Erica Otto top the list of 12 honor graduates for Schulenburg High School’s Class of 2021. Lux, the daughter of Brad and Terah Lux, had the highest gradepoint average and was named valedictorian.

Tax abatement for Perdue approved 4-1

In a 4-1 vote, the Fayette County Commissioners Court approved a tax abatement agreement with Perdue Farms, LLC during a special meeting on Thursday, May 20. The 10-year agreement is based on an estimated investment of $3.8 million in equipment and buildings by Perdue at its Schulenburg facility.

Within a week of last Tuesday night’s severe storm, nearly all the roads in the Schulenburg area that were closed had reopened. Precinct 4 crews had their hands full clearing fallen trees from roadways, like the one on Hranicky Road (top photo) west of town.

A Hallettsville man was arrested following a pursuit in the Schulenburg area that was initiated by a Fayette County deputy in response to an incident that occurred in Lavaca County, according to a report from Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek. On Wednesday, May 19 around 9 p.m.
