Schulenburg High seniors Erica Otto and Bryce Wilson garnered all-state basketball honors for their efforts this past season. Otto was named to the Class 2A lists of the Texas Girls Coaches Association as well as the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Both were announced last week.

Driver shoots self after pursuit, standoff on I-10

A chase of nearly 100 miles on Thursday, March 25 ended up west of Schulenburg on Interstate 10 with a standoff between authorities and the driver, who ultimately died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Several 911 calls reporting a truck on fire on Interstate 10 eastbound at the 665 mile marker just past the North Knesek overpass were received by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, March 19 around 2:17 p.m., according to Sheriff Keith Korenek.

Drugs, weapon found after traffic stop on I-10 near town

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that a Houston man was arrested early Saturday morning after a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Schulenburg. At around 12:04 a.m. on March 20, Deputy A. J. Gonzales stopped a 2018 Dodge Charger near the 672 mile marker for a traffic violation.
