Hermann Sons Life Lodge No. 14 of Schulenburg has selected Nathaniel Charles Loth for its Humanitarian of the Year Award for 2020. Arnold Loth purchased a membership for his son, Nathan, on Dec. 1, 1955 when he was president of the Freyburg Hermann Sons.

As the Department of State Health Services got caught up on backlogged information, Fayette County saw a massive increase in COVID-19 cases this week. According to Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Moreau, the DSHS entered all of the backlogged information on Feb. 1.

The Texas unemployment rate for December 2020 was 7.2 percent, down from 8.1 percent in November 2020, according to the latest figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission. For Fayette and surrounding counties, rates also decreased significantly.

Grass fire near Flatonia burns houses, vehicles, equipment

A 911 call reporting a large grass fire on Slo John Road off FM 609 in the Flatonia area was received by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office on Friday, Jan. 15 around 3:50 p.m., according to Sheriff Keith Korenek. Flatonia Fire & Rescue was notified and responded to the scene.
