Burn ban removed

The Fayette County Commissioners Court removed the ban on outdoor burning during its meeting on Thursday, Sept. 10. Recent rains received across the county contributed to lifting the burn ban.

Sticker wins four awards

In conjunction with the 82nd Annual Texas Gulf Coast Press Association’s 2020 convention, held virtually on Aug. 28, awards were presented in three divisions of its Better Newspaper Contest. The Schulenburg Sticker, competing in the Small Weekly division, garnered four awards.

Local FFA’ers place in Fayette County Fair livestock contests

Schulenburg FFA members participated in the Fayette County Fair commercial heifer show, dairy show and breeding beef show. Commercial heifer exhibitors were Gavin Kubala, Emma Kubala, Grant Kubala, Regan Lux, Jayse Janda and Klare Segura. Dairy exhibitors were Blaine Zapalac and Landry Zapalac.

Fitzpatrick named Fayette County Fair Queen

The Fayette County Fair Queen’s Pageant was held on Thursday, Sept. 3 in La Grange. The queen contestants sold advance season passes to the Fayette County Fair, which ended up being cancelled for 2020 under the advice of City of La Grange and Fayette County officials due to the pandemic.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation declaring September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Fayette County with the theme, “Wear a Gold Ribbon” during the Commissioners Court meeting held on Thursday, Aug. 27.

One-vehicle rollover claims life of Baytown man

A Baytown man lost his life while heading west on Interstate 10 to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Laura’s landfall last week.
