Public hearing on Perdue tax abatement set

The Fayette County Commissioners Court held a special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 9 a.m., setting a public hearing date to consider and potentially enter into a tax abatement agreement with Perdue Farms of Schulenburg and to establish a reinvestment zone.

City Hall, PD to reopen; Expo Center to get repairs

The lobbies of City Hall and the Police Department will reopen at the beginning of February after action by the Schulenburg City Council at its regular meeting Monday, Jan. 5. “We would still enforce the facemask (requirement),” City Administrator Tami Walker said.

Brossmann appointed Precinct 4 commissioner

With Tom Muras’ resignation as Fayette County Precinct 4 commissioner, County Judge Joe Weber appointed Drew Brossmann to the position. Muras, in the middle of a fouryear term, announced his intention to step down earlier this month effective Dec. 31.

County has first COVID-19 vaccination

“It didn’t hurt at all” was the reaction of Laurie Quitta, nurse director of the Medical Surgical Unit of St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange. Quitta has served as a nurse in Fayette County for four decades and was chosen to receive the very first COVID-19 vaccine administered in Fayette County.
