Library receives grant from Texas Book Festival

The Schulenburg Public Library was chosen as one of 42 across the state to receive a grant from the Texas Book Festival. The organization gives out grants to libraries each year to grow equity for libraries and communities and to support the hard work of library directors and staff.

Tax abatement for solar ranch passed by Commissioners Court

The Fayette County Commissioners Court designated a reinvestment zone, and approved entering into a property tax abatement agreement with 7V Solar Ranch, LLC during the meeting held on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 27.

County tax assessor-collector passes away at 65

The first Mexican-American elected to a County office passed away at the age of 65 on Saturday, Aug. 29. Rosalinda (Guajardo) Adamcik of La Grange served as Fayette County’s tax assessor-collector for the past five years.

Trustees approve budget, $1.1556 rate

A slight increase to the budget and a small decrease to the property tax rate were approved by the Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees at its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 24. Superintendent Duane Limbaugh said the figures included the compensation plan previously discussed.

Week-long testing comes back 96 percent negative

Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau reported that 656 individuals took advantage of last week’s COVID-19 testing at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. Overall, the positivity rate was extremely low at 2.74 percent, a fraction of the current state average.

Two citizens speak during public hearing on County’s tax rate

A public hearing on the proposed property tax rate of $0.4640 was held on Wednesday evening, Aug. 19 by the Fayette County Commissioners Court. This proposed rate is the same tax rate which was passed last year to fund Fayette County’s budget.
