The free COVID-19 testing that started Monday, Aug. 17 was extended through Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange. Fayette County residency is not required. Originally, it was slated to end on Friday.

A modest increase to the property tax rate in Schulenburg was proposed by the City Council at its regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 17. The aldermen voted unanimously to proceed with a public hearing on $0.21 per $100 of valuation, a 1.74-percent increase from last year.

Schulenburg ISD finalized its seating system for home games at SHS Gym and Shorthorn Stadium due to the COVID-19 pandemic on Monday, Aug. 17. Spectators will be required to wear face coverings and the number of fans will be limited to 50 percent of the seating capacity.

The Texas Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) on Thursday, Aug. 6 announced limited visitation rules for nursing facilities and long-term care facilities. HHSC also issued enhanced emergency rules requiring additional actions by nursing facilities to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

For the second straight week, Fayette County’s confirmed active cases of COVID-19 decreased while recoveries continued to rise significantly. According to the coronavirus tracker on the County’s website, those cases went from 75 to 27 from Aug. 4 to Aug. 11.
