The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit, with the assistance of deputies and the Schulenburg Police Department, executed a search warrant at a local residence on Friday, Aug. 7 that led to one arrest.

Drug interdiction investigators continue to get “waste” off Interstate 10 in Fayette County, Sheriff Keith Korenek said in a press release last week. He was referring to a marijuana bust made during a traffic stop on a septic cleaning truck on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Abbott extends early voting in Nov. 3 election

Gov. Greg Abbott issued a proclamation on Monday, July 27 extending the early voting period for the Nov. 3 election by nearly a week. Under this proclamation, early voting by personal appearance will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 13, and continue through Friday, Oct. 30.

Foes decreased for SHS football, volleyball teams

Both the Lady Horns and Shorthorns will face fewer opponents this fall as schedules were revised for volleyball and football in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The girls will start their season with a scrimmage at SHS Gym this Friday, Aug. 7 against Brazos, Hallettsville, and La Grange.

Face coverings discussed by City Council

The possibility of a resolution requiring face coverings inside the city limits was discussed by the Schulenburg City Council at its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 3 but the aldermen agreed that they wouldn’t pursue one.

Hearing on proposed county tax rate set for 6 p.m. on Aug. 19

The Fayette County Commissioners Court set a public hearing on the proposed tax rate of $0.4640 during a special meeting held on Thursday afternoon, July 30. The proposed tax rate is the same as the current County tax rate.
