Second Chance donates $10,000 to St. Mark’s

Second Chance Emporium recently presented a $10,000 check to St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange to be used to purchase vital sign monitors and patient care equipment. Accepting the check for St. Mark’s were Laurie Quitta, medical/surgical director; Sarah Muir, RN; and Sharon Claxton, radiology.

Notice about this year’s pageant given

The Schulenburg Festival pageant has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We will stay in the same timeline as the Festival. We appreciate your understanding,” Mary Jane Pesek and Bethany Pesek Smrkovsky, pageant directors, said. “Take care and stay safe,” they added.

DWI arrest made after late-night accident

A 25-year-old Plantersville man who left a wedding reception Saturday night ended up in the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange after he crashed the vehicle he was driving through a fence on the west end of town.

Festival falls victim to virus

The COVID-19 pandemic claimed another victim on June 30 with the cancellation of the “National Party of Texas,” which was scheduled for July 31-Aug. 2. At a special meeting of the Schulenburg City Council Tuesday afternoon, the aldermen voted 5-0 to ban outdoor gatherings of 100 or more.

Seven vying for Fayette Fair Queen

The 2020 Fayette County Fair Queen contestants have been announced, and this year seven young ladies are vying for the title. Ticket sales by the Queen contestants were set to begin on Wednesday, July 1, with season passes good for all four days of the Fair costing $35 each.
