State unemployment stays steady at 4.3% in January, area rates increase

The Texas Workforce Commission released labor market statistics for January last week and they showed that the statewide seasonally-adjusted unemployment stayed at 4.3 percent from the previous month.Fayette County’s unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) rose from 3.4 percent in December to 4.

SPD K-9 unit assists in drug bust after traffic stop by deputy east of La Grange

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that Deputy Josh Jones initiated a traffic stop that led to a drug arrest on Wednesday, April 1 at approximately 10:54 p.m. on Highway 71 east of La Grange.

City Council continues to mull over renovations

Rosebud-Lott principal hired to head up secondary school

Following a 10-minute executive session to start a special meeting on Wednesday, April 1, the Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Dr. Jerrod Barton as the new secondary principal.

Price tag for building renovations questioned

A week after settling on $15 million as the amount to cover renovating two buildings and drilling a new water well or upgrading a wastewater treatment plant, the Schulenburg City Council put a hold on proceeding at last week’s special meeting.
