State unemployment stays steady at 4.3% in January, area rates increase

The Texas Workforce Commission released labor market statistics for January last week and they showed that the statewide seasonally-adjusted unemployment stayed at 4.3 percent from the previous month.Fayette County’s unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) rose from 3.4 percent in December to 4.

SPD K-9 unit assists in drug bust after traffic stop by deputy east of La Grange

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that Deputy Josh Jones initiated a traffic stop that led to a drug arrest on Wednesday, April 1 at approximately 10:54 p.m. on Highway 71 east of La Grange.

Rosebud-Lott principal hired to head up secondary school

Following a 10-minute executive session to start a special meeting on Wednesday, April 1, the Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Dr. Jerrod Barton as the new secondary principal.

Lady Horn sophomore Miranda Bonner was one of 50 players selected to the Class 2A all-state basketball team for 2025-26 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.The TGCA announced its all-state teams for all UIL classifications last week.
