Gunfire at area trail ride leads to arrest of Elgin man

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of shots being fired at a trail ride in the Mullins Prairie area at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, June 23.

SISD trustees approve pursuing purchase of Dittrich building

Making an offer to purchase the Henry Dittrich Sr. Enterprises building and closing the deal with a “time warrant” were approved by the Schulenburg ISD Board of Trustees following an executive session at the end of last week’s meeting.

Council approves warehouse additions, City Hall repairs

A bid was awarded for construction of an awning and lean-to structure at the City Warehouse at last week’s meeting of the Schulenburg City Council.Aldermen also gave City staff the go-ahead to continue upgrades at City Hall following work to stabilize its foundation.

Ice cream conundrum

When foundation work at City Hall cracked an exterior wall panel on the west side of the building last week, the painted area shown above was discovered. City Secretary Mason Florus said the building, built in 1894, housed four businesses which included a drug store in the 1940s or 1950s.

Toddler meets Aussie baby at the library

One of the younger attendees at the Schulenburg Public Library’s program last Friday pets baby red kangaroo “Remi,” being held by Rick Urwin of The Creature Teacher out of Houston. Urwin introduced animals from all over the world and explained all about each one to the 172 in attendance.
