Legion and Auxiliary had monthly meetings Oct. 3

American Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary held their monthly meetings on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Commander Bob Heinrich called the meeting to order with 33 Legion and nine Auxiliary members in attendance. Auxiliary chaplain Linda Dieringer read the opening prayer.

At the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in La Grange, members were given specific instructions on making their quilts for show as well as advice about care – as told through the eyes of a quilt show judge.

Quilts made for Texas Quilt Museum’s story time

Two members of the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild constructed quilts to accompany books that are read to youngsters during story time at the Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange. The members displayed those quilts at the CVQG meeting on Oct. 24.

LEGION & AUXILIARY American Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary will hold their next monthly meetings on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at the American Legion Home in Schulenburg beginning at 7 p.m. All members and prospective members are invited to attend.

Holiday Hold’em wellness program to start

“Would you like to maintain or even lose weight this holiday season?” asks Sally Garrett, Fayette County Extension agent-family and community health. “A multi-county wellness program, Holiday Hold’em, will begin soon,” she continued.

‘Spooky stories’ at Monument Hill/Kreische Brewery

Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites near La Grange will host its third annual spooky stories program on Friday, Oct. 27. Stories will begin at 7 p.m. Guests are encouraged to come early to watch the sunset from the Bluff, take in the fall weather and enjoy BYO picnics.
$3,200 check presented – The Dry-Tri held by Anytime Fitness raised $3,200 which was donated to Turtle Wing Foundation. Anytime Fitness’ Dry-Tri benefits Turtle Wing

Anytime Fitness in Schulenburg held its annual “Dry-Tri” from Tuesday, Sept. 26 to Saturday, Sept. 30, with all proceeds going to Turtle Wing Foundation. This event is called Dry-Tri because it is a triathlon, but one that takes place on dry land, in the gym.

Literary Club hears from two speakers at meeting

The Schulenburg Literary Club met on Oct. 10 at noon in the Schulenburg Public Library. Hostesses Sue Broadwater, Coleen McGill, Craig Morgan and Sharon Rodriguez prepared a delicious luncheon of warm chicken salad, croissants, blue cheese coleslaw, assorted cheeses, crackers and grapes.
