‘Voices of Veterans’ has new episode

Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., announces the next installment of the series highlighting the VLB’s Voices of Veterans oral history program. This episode features the story of Texas veteran Glen Pugh, who was born in Tyler.

The Union Church of La Grange Presbyterians worshipped in Texas from as early as 1826, when Stephen Townsend and much of his extended family left Florida and came to Texas.

Thomas to speak in Weimar on preserving history

Author and storyteller Elaine Thomas will be at the Weimar Public Library on Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. to share her expertise on gathering facts and stories in order to preserve a little bit of history.

La Grange groups set holiday trip to Berclair Mansion

A holiday trip to the Berclair Mansion is being hosted by the Casino Art Association board and La Grange Main Street on Sunday, Dec. 3. The tour will leave La Grange at 8 a.m. and return by 5 p.m.

Holiday arts/crafts show set

On Sunday, Nov. 12, the “Holiday in the Country” arts and crafts show will be presented by the Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St.

Bubela gives program at Garden Club meeting

The Schulenburg Garden Club meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 3 was opened by president Bonnie Baker with the Garden Club Prayer. A luncheon was served by hostesses Nova Stonecipher, Mary Demel and Jan Ripper. Nineteen members and one guest enjoyed delicious chicken lasagna, salads and desserts.

Fayette Czech Heritage Society has fall meeting

On Sunday, October 8, 2023, The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society held its fall meeting at Hanslik Hall at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange on Sunday, Oct. 8. Members were reminded that October is Czech Heritage Month.
