The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society held a special meeting in Hanslik Hall at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange on March 24. The current reigning 2023-24 CHS Miss Texas Czech-Slovak Queen, Katie Kostelnik, honored the society with her presence.

The West Navidad Wildlife Management Association will hold its spring meeting on Saturday, April 13 at the Rockin W sale barn on Highway 77 north of Schulenburg. A social will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by a meal of beef tips, mashed potatoes and gravy from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

CVQG members construct ‘Quilt of Valor’ at workshop

Twenty-two members of the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild had a wonderful time trying something new on March 27 by participating in the Guild’s “Quilt of Valor” project. Scraps of patriotic material were cut into various lengths and widths and each member was asked to make 8½-inch or 9½inch blocks using a Log Cabin design.

Ortwein to present program in Weimar

Historical fiction writer Barbara Ortwein from Germany will speak at the Weimar Public Library on Friday, April 5 at 11 a.m. Ortwein will present her Texas saga trilogy on German immigration to Texas by highlighting places and families that many people will recognize.
