50 attend Hermann Sons Life meeting

Fifty members and guests were present at the Schulenburg Hermann Sons Life Lodge 14 meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Oakridge Restaurant. The pledge of allegiance to both flags was recited. The minutes were approved as read and Chelsea Moeller gave the financial report.

St. James Baptist Church Fish FrySt. James Baptist Church will hold a fish fry on Friday, Aug. 22 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with pickup at St. James Baptist Church, 1103 James Ave. Plates ($12 each) will include fried fish, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies and dessert.

GJAS reports increase in intake compared to 2024

The Gardenia E. JanssenAnimal Shelter has seen an increase in intake for 2025 year-to-date – caring for 132 more dogs and cats in need than in 2024.This scenario does not include dogs and puppies in foster homes.

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $1,500 to the American Legion Post No. 102 of La Grange. Monies donated will support costs associated with the second annual Armed Forces Appreciation Dinner & Dance on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the KC Hall in La Grange starting at 3 p.m.

Garden Club to resume meetings on Sept. 2

The Schulenburg Garden Club is set to begin its 2025-26 season with its first meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at First Baptist Church, 110 Upton Ave., in Schulenburg.
