National Garden Week takes place annually in the first full week of June. This year, the dates are June 1 to 7. It is spearheaded by National Garden Clubs Inc., a nonprofit organization headquartered in St.

Circa 1895 photograph of the M.K.T. rail yard on the eastern end of La Grange (vicinity of 600th block East La Fayette Street) looking south with the bluff in the distance. Louis Melcher captured this view from the roof of the M.K.T. freight depot. Train cars, warehouses, elevated tanks and open sheds like those used by lumberyards are visible (present day Farmer’s Lumber Co.).

Author and railroad historian Ken E. Stavinoha will speak on “The Golden Era of Railroading in Texas” on Thursday evening, May 22 in the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library in La Grange.

Archer shows three videos at Garden Club meeting

The Schulenburg Garden Club held its concluding meeting of the season on Tuesday, May 6 before taking a recess for the summer. President Bonnie Baker welcomed 20 members and two guests to the gathering. The traditional Garden Club Prayer and Pledge of Membership were recited.
