Schulenburg Young FarmersThe Schulenburg Young Farmers will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Schulenburg Expo Center.The program on wildlife and deer population will be given by Laura Sherod, wildlife biologist for Texas Parks & Wildlife.

Literary Club discusses fundraiser at meeting

After its customary summer hiatus, the Schulenburg Literary Club reconvened its regular meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at noon in the Schulenburg Public Library.

Garden Club honors Mary Demel at luncheon

The theme for the Schulenburg Garden Club luncheon on Monday, Sept. 2 was “Our Labor Day Picnic” and the motto was “A Labor of Love.” The motto was chosen in honor of Mary Demel, who was recognized for her 50th year of membership in the Schulenburg Garden Club.
The table and its contents hold special significance for the solemn POW/MIA ceremony. The table, set for one, includes a white tablecloth, red rose, yellow ribbon, slice of lemon, salt, inverted glass, empty chair and candle. Legion Auxiliary members conducting the ceremony included (from left) Debbie Behlen, Patricia Hranicky and Patricia Marty.

In honor of Prisoners Of War/Missing In Action Month in September, the Schulenburg American Legion Auxiliary held a solemn ceremony at the beginning of the Legion and Auxiliary meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Senior Connections: a gathering place for active senior citizens

“With fall around the corner and the smell of pumpkin spice in the air, I cannot wait for the foliage to change into glorious colors and time to enjoy the cooler weather. I hope you, fellow gardeners, are getting your gardens planted,” Stephanie Shroyer, Senior Connections program director said.

The Schulenburg Garden Club has chosen the home of Paddy and Kaaren Magliolo at 801 West Anderson to receive yard of the month honors for September. The yard is immaculate with a variety of colors and texture that welcomes any visitor.

Healthy Home Cooking Series slated in October

Learn how to make ordinary meals extraordinary by attending a Healthy Home Cooking Series being hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Fayette County.The workshops will be held on Thursdays, Oct. 3, Oct. 10 and Oct. 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Holman Catholic Church PicnicThe annual picnic of St. Wenceslaus Church will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the parish grounds in Holman on FM 155 between La Grange & Weimar. A drive-thru-only meal will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. for $13 per plate.
