Short-handed Shorthorns struggle in Refugio

Only two of the five players sidelined with injuries returned to the lineup in the Shorthorns’ 36-8 loss last Friday in Refugio.A sixth starter had to sit out the first half due to an ejection in the second half the previous week.Lineman Colton Matura and receiver Denver Carr made their 2026 debuts.

Lady Horns fall to ranked teams

The Lady Horns headed into its District 23-3A schedule this week with a 15-15 record after two losses last week.Round Top-Carmine, ranked No. 3 in Class 1A, prevailed in four sets at SHS gym on Tuesday.

Horns host 2-0 Raiders for home opener on Thursday

After a pair of road losses to start the season, the Shorthorns will have their first home game on the 2026 season when Rice Consolidated comes to Schulenburg this Thursday, Sept. 10. Kickoff at David Husmann Memorial Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
