Horns finish in three-way tie atop 28-2A, claim No. 1 playoff seed

After finishing off the regular season with a 23-point win in Weimar last Tuesday, the Shorthorns found themselves tied for first place in District 28-2A because of Flatonia’s victory in Bloomington. Playoff seeding was then determined by coin flip on Wednesday and Schulenburg won the No. 1 spot.

Lady Horns go 1-1 in first week of ’24 season

After a three-inning, run-rule win at Rice Consolidated last Tuesday, the Lady Horns suffered a 15-run loss in five innings at home on Friday. Taking advantage of 16 walks and nine Lady Raider errors, Schulenburg scored 25 runs on 10 hits in its season opener.

Shorthorn and Lady Horn tennis players got their season under way at the Goliad tournament, held over two days last week. Emmrie Marx turned in the top performance, bringing home the bronze medal in the varsity girls’ division.

Bulldogs hand Horns third district loss

Even with eight three-pointers and four more field goals, the Shorthorns fell short against the Bulldogs in Flatonia on Feb. 6. After the ’Dogs’ 54-49 win and a 68-65 victory over Louise on Friday, Flatonia and Schulenburg were tied for second in District 282A.
