Commissioners mull expanding current jail or building new one

The Fayette County Commissioners Court heard a report on proposed upgrades to the county jail during the meeting on Thursday, Sept. 22. No decision was made on any of the options presented. Kenneth Burns with Burns Architecture, LLC did an evaluation of the county jail and reported on his findings.

Addressing facility needs discussed at school board meeting on Monday

Plans for upgrades at Schulenburg ISD were initiated at Monday night’s Board of Trustees meeting. Superintendent Duane Limbaugh brought up the track, tennis courts, central office, and bus barn as areas that need addressing. Trustee John Salem added the field house to that list.

An 18-wheeler got stuck trying to get under South Main Street via Highway 77 on Monday, Sept. 19 at approximately 6:45 p.m. Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said it was an over-sized load and should have used Loop 222.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for nearly an hour due to a vehicle fire on Thursday, Sept. 15. The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. about seven miles west of the Schulenburg exit.
