Commissioners mull expanding current jail or building new one

The Fayette County Commissioners Court heard a report on proposed upgrades to the county jail during the meeting on Thursday, Sept. 22. No decision was made on any of the options presented. Kenneth Burns with Burns Architecture, LLC did an evaluation of the county jail and reported on his findings.

South Main Street overpass closed Monday night

An 18-wheeler got stuck trying to get under South Main Street via Highway 77 on Monday, Sept. 19 at approximately 6:45 p.m. Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said it was an over-sized load and should have used Loop 222.

City budget approved 3-1 with 4-0 vote for tax rate

No one present had questions about the 2022-23 budget at a public hearing held prior to Monday night’s Schulenburg City Council meeting but one alderman had a couple of issues with it and voted against its approval.

Vehicle fire shuts down I-10 westbound

The westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for nearly an hour due to a vehicle fire on Thursday, Sept. 15. The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. about seven miles west of the Schulenburg exit.
