Bridge work on Holub Rd. starts Oct. 17

Fayette County Precinct 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann reported that the bridge on Holub Road over Middle Creek will be closed starting on Monday, Oct. 17. The structure will be replaced as part of a Texas Department of Transportation Bridge Grant project.

The Schulenburg Police Department reported on two arrests over the weekend and one last week. On Monday, Sept. 26 at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers made contact with 29-year-old Kenneth Weems of Weimar.

Four VFDs battle blaze in Flatonia

A massive fire in the City of Flatonia which started on Monday morning, Oct. 3 destroyed a residence at 113 W. South Main St. At 11:15 a.m., Flatonia Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the building, which formerly housed Flatonia Community Clinic as an affiliate of Colorado-Fayette Medical Center.

After a three-month burn ban, allowing outdoor burning lasted only two weeks as the Fayette County Commissioners Court voted 5-0 to reinstate the restriction last Thursday.

The Fayette County Narcotics Unit seized over 100 pounds of cocaine during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 just west of Schulenburg on Saturday, Sept. 24, according to Sheriff Keith Korenek.
