Syrinek retiring after 28 years with USPS, 12 as local postmaster

After a 28-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, Wendy Syrinek announced her retirement, effective May 31. After starting as a city letter carrier and serving in many positions and offices throughout Central Texas, she was selected as postmaster in Schulenburg 12 years ago.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department reported that on Monday, May 23 at approximately 8:37 a.m., Investigator David Smith was on Interstate 10 near Flatonia when he observed a vehicle in the median which appeared to have just wrecked.

Sticker wins 7 awards in TGCPA contest

The Sticker received awards in all seven categories it entered in the Texas Gulf Coast Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest. Winners in three divisions were announced during the TGCPA’s 84th annual convention, held May 12-14 in Sugar Land. All entries were published in 2021.

Cameras for county ambulances approved

The Fayette County Commissioners Court approved the purchase of camera systems for ambulances using Capital Area Trauma Regional Advisory Council grant funding at the meeting on Thursday, May 12. The cost in six ambulances is $17,852.
