Big plays propel Shorthorns past Kenedy in area playoff

While Kenedy’s power running attack successfully plodded downfield, Schulenburg struck quickly with its speed advantage for a 37-12 area playoff win last Friday at Pieper Stadium in San Antonio. The Lions (9-3) ended up outgaining the Shorthorns 281-231 but averaged only 4.

For the first time in 11 years, the Shorthorns have reached the third round of the playoffs but their 7 p.m. game Friday, Nov. 26 in Hallettsville will be against one of the top-ranked teams in Class 2A Division I. It’s also a rematch with District 13 champion Shiner.

New buses approved by SISD board

With a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees at last week’s meeting, the Schulenburg ISD will be upgrading its vehicle fleet with the purchase of two new buses.

State unemployment drops, area rates vary in October

In October, the seasonally-adjusted Texas unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from September 2021, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. Fayette, like two surrounding counties, saw its rate (not seasonally adjusted) stay the same last month.

When most people endow a Blinn College District scholarship, they write a check. Elaine Thomas wrote a book. Thomas has dedicated the proceeds from her new book, “Stories I’ve Been Told: Volume 1,” to an endowed scholarship that she and husband Emil established several years ago.
