House gutted by fire Sunday night

A small, wood-framed home in the 1200 block of South Street was gutted by a fire of undetermined origin late Sunday night, Jan. 17. The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department battled the blaze for about an hour and a half.

Multi-county vaccination center set up

Early last week, Gov. Greg Abbott announced a new state strategy for distributing COVID-19 vaccines. Sen. Lois Kolkhorst played a key role in securing this site for the region. The plan focuses on new vaccine “HUBs” and “subHUBs” that are intended to help distribute the vaccine faster.

County paid leave plan discussed

The Fayette County Commissioners Court deferred amending/ modifying its Temporary Order concerning COVID-19 at its regular meeting on Thursday, Jan. 14. The Order was originally approved on March 31, 2020.

Fayette County Judge Joe Weber issued the following press release late afternoon on Tuesday, Jan. 12: Fayette County has been notified that, due to the high hospitalization rate in its trauma service area, elective surgeries and other conditions included in Gov. Abbott’s GA-32 may not be allowed.
