State & area unemployment rates increase slightly in February

In February, the seasonallyadjusted Texas unemployment rate was 6.9 percent, up from 6.8 percent in January 2020, according to figures from the Texas Workforce Commission released last week.

Truck fire extinguished on I-10

Several 911 calls reporting a truck on fire on Interstate 10 eastbound at the 665 mile marker just past the North Knesek overpass were received by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, March 19 around 2:17 p.m., according to Sheriff Keith Korenek.

Drugs, weapon found after traffic stop on I-10 near town

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reported that a Houston man was arrested early Saturday morning after a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Schulenburg. At around 12:04 a.m. on March 20, Deputy A. J. Gonzales stopped a 2018 Dodge Charger near the 672 mile marker for a traffic violation.

Local FFA’ers bring home awards from HLS&R

Schulenburg FFA members exhibited livestock and ag mechanics projects as well as participated in judging events for wildlife and poultry along with the Livestock Quiz Bowl at the 2021 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo held March 3-21.

Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum welcomes Barborak family visitors

Victor Stanzel and Joe Stanzel, with associate Emil Barborak, established Stanzel-Barborak & Company. Together, they completed a six-passenger rocketlike ship, mounted on a common axis that could rotate, and revolved in an angular plane.
