Another deep playoff run halted in state semis

For the third time in the last four years, the Lady Horns finished in the final four with an incredible 137 wins over that span but Jewett Leon ended their quest for a second state championship last Saturday in Brenham.

Austin man arrested for theft north of town

A theft in progress that was reported on Wednesday, Nov. 5 led to the arrest of an Austin man near Schulenburg, according to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek.In a press release received on Nov. 12, Sheriff Korenek stated that at approximately 3:16 a.m.

63rd anniversary All Veterans Day ceremonies held at Praha

The 63rd anniversary All Veterans Day ceremonies were held on Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Praha Cemetery, honoring all veterans of all eras. The assembly began at 10:30 a.m. and the veterans memorial service started at 11 a.m. Prior to the ceremonies, a patriotic rosary was recited at 8:45 a.m.

Equipment purchases approved by Council

Requests to buy a new bucket truck and redo an electrical panel were unanimously approved by the Schulenburg City Council at its meeting last week.City Administrator Tami Walker said the truck, from Altec, was not included in the budget but $150,000 would be available for the down payment.

Book signing for ‘From High Hill to the NFL’ set

The Schulenburg Lions Club will host a book signing with the authors of “From High Hill to the NFL – The Story of Hugo Hollas” at the Schulenburg Public Library (310 Simpson St.) on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 11:45 a.m.The public is welcome to attend the organization’s monthly luncheon meeting.

No one injured in blaze that razed two homes

A fire of unknown origin spread from a house at 315 Summit St. to a neighboring home in the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 10.Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department Chief Darren Guentert said the call came in at 12:27 a.m.

Three-way ties resolved, Horns face Freer in Poth

Upsets on the final Friday night of the regular season resulted in three-way ties for District 15 and District 16 in Class 2A Division I.Once the math was calculated, Schulenburg finished as the second-place seed in the former while Freer ended up third in the latter.
