Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish Festival, Hostyn Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish, Hostyn, will hold its festival at the church grounds on Sunday, Oct. 1, celebrating the 192nd anniversary of the first Mass at Hostyn. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. outdoors under a tent.

John C. Landa Jr., the “Schulenbirder,” shares three hummingbird photos from his backyard in Houston. All are of a ruby-throated hummingbird. An interesting feature of this species is the throat color of the male, which seems to change from black to bright red depending on the angle of the light.

Retired Teachers learn about ACCESS at meeting

The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association met on Monday, Sept. 11 at the Fellowship Hall of the New Life Methodist Church (formerly First United Methodist Church) in La Grange with 31 in attendance. Fellowship time was a “welcome back!” social with Blue Bell ice cream.

Local libary receives memorials and new books

Garden Club resumes meetings after summer break with program by Miculka

The Schulenburg Garden Club opened its first meeting after the summer break on Sept. 5. The meeting was held at the First Baptist Church, Schulenburg, at 11:30 a.m. President Bonnie Baker welcomed 23 members and four guests, one being speaker Gavin Miculka.

The Schulenburg Historical Museum window display features 150 years of Schulenburg in recognition of the town’s sesquicentennial. Everyone is invited to stop by and check out the changes through the years. The Schulenburg Historical Museum is located at 631 North Main St.

Sr. Connections: gathering place for active seniors

Last week was a rocking week at Senior Connections, and there is no relief in sight, either. It started on Monday, Sept. 11 with lunch-and-learn speaker Angie Evans from Garden Walk of LSW, which provides reduced-cost senior housing in La Grange, Weimar and Schulenburg.
