AMERICAN Legion & AuxiliaryAmerican Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary will hold their next monthly meetings on Tuesday, July 2 at the American Legion Home beginning at 7 p.m. All members and prospective members are invited to attend.

American Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary held their monthly meetings on Tuesday, June 4. Commander Bob Heinrich called the meeting to order with 40 Legion and 10 Auxiliary members in attendance. Auxiliary chaplain stand-in Patricia Hranicky read the opening prayer.

Black-bellied whistling mother duck and ducklings

John C. Landa Jr., “the Schulenbirder,” sent this photo on Sunday, June 23, saying, “This mother duck and her ducklings appeared on our pond Saturday evening just before sunset.” He says that the black-bellied whistling duck is fairly common to this area, especially during summer.

Fayette Co. 1st responders treated on Nat'l Donut Day

National Donut Day, observed this year on June 7, can be traced to the Salvation Army’s involvement in World War I. During that time, a group of volunteers were dispatched to the frontlines with the mission of providing comforting meals for the troops.

Weimar library to host ‘Mad Hatter Tea Party’

A huge day of fun has been planned by the Weimar Public Library for Monday, June 24.Billed as the “Adventures in Wonderland Mad Hatter Tea Party,” it is the fourth in a series of free programs for children this summer. This event will be held at the Weimar City Gazebo beginning at 11 a.m.

CVQG meeting, trunk show set

The Colorado Valley Quilt Guild will host Cynthia Regone at meeting on Tuesday, June 25 at 6 p.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 East Pearl St., Room A East, La Grange.Regone will give a lecture on “Scrap Quilts … Too Much Is Never Enough” and “Who doesn’t have enough scraps?

Sr. Connections: gathering place for active seniors

June seems to be going by so fast – having a busy schedule sure makes time fly. After a morning of games on Monday, June 24, Senior Connections will welcome Home Town Wellness for an important topic.

The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association met on Monday, June 10 at Robert’s Steakhouse in Flatonia, with 18 members and two guests in attendance.Guests were Gene Stokes, past District 13 president, and Joe Ramirez, present District 13 president.Luncheon (self-pay) was at 11:30 a.m.
