Legion and Auxiliary had monthly meetings March 5

American Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary held their monthly meetings on Tuesday, March 5. Commander Bob Heinrich called the meeting to order with 42 Legion members, two guests and nine Auxiliary members in attendance. Guests were Michael Onkowsky and Rick Kinkaid.

Local library lists memorials, new books, donors

The beautiful season of spring is here, so stop by the Schulenburg Public Library to check out one of its awesome gardening books. The library has received the following memorials: •In loving memory of Peggy Mendel – Given by Harlan and Joyce Kobza.

Retired Teachers have ‘cookie swap’ at meeting

Members of the Fayette County Retired Teachers’Association met on Monday, March 11 with 12 in attendance. The fellowship time was hosted by Karen Fitch, who also donated the book raffle item. The business meeting included approval of the Jan. 8 minutes and the treasurer’s report.

‘Easter on the Bluff’ set March 30

This Saturday, March 30, Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites near La Grange will host Easter on the Bluff, celebrating one of the most beloved Bluff Schuetzenverein traditions. This year’s event will feature living history programs, children’s egg hunts, games, and an Easter fire.

Good Friday Holiday Many local businesses will be closed or will close early in observance of Good Friday, March 29. Community Good Friday Service The Schulenburg Ministerial Alliance community Good Friday service will be held at First Methodist Church, 209 North Upton Ave., on March 29 at noon.

Meetings

American Legion McBride Post 143 and Auxiliary will hold their next monthly meetings on Tuesday, April 2 at the American Legion Home in Schulenburg beginning at 7 p.m. All members and prospective members are invited to attend.

Reunions

The 27th John Wick family reunion will be held at the St. Mary Parish Hall in High Hill on Sunday, April 7, with registration starting at 10 a.m. A catered meal of fried chicken and sausage will be served at noon for $14 a plate for 13 years and up; children 12 and under eat free.

Scissortail flycatchers return

After an absence between December and February, scissortail flycatchers have returned to the area for spring, and John C. Landa Jr., “The Schulenbirder,” sends two photos take on Monday morning, March 25 at his property southwest of Schuienburg.
