Charles Aschenbeck, who lives in Schulenburg, took these photos of the annular solar eclipse (also known as a “ring of fire” eclipse”) on Saturday, Oct. 14. He says the took the photos eight miles west of Fredericksburg.

John C. Landa, Jr., the Schulenbirder, sends photos of a pair of Eastern Bluebirds (left) and a Red-tailed Hawk (right) that he took over the past couple of weeks. He says that both are year-round residents of Schulenburg.

County 4-H’ers enter Food Challenge at State Fair

Thirteen Fayette County 4-H members competed in the State Fair of Texas Food Challenge Contest held on Monday, Oct. 2 in Dallas. The Fayette County 4-H senior team consisting of Tori Newton, Elena Supak and Eleanor Carey placed first in senior side dish category and advanced to the final round.
