Fair Assn. presents checks to queen contestant sponsors

The Fayette County Fair Association presentedproeeeds from Queen contestants’ season ticket sales to each of their sponsoring nonprofit organization.

Texas Quilt Museum director hosts CVQG meeting

Deborah Bradley, director of the Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange, graciously hosted the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild at the Museum on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Bradley’s enthusiasm and love for the exhibits and the building’s history were inspiring.

The annual Reformation Celebration sponsored by Tri-County Cooperative Ministries (TCCM) will be hosted by Zion Lutheran Church, 307 North Hackberry, Moulton, on Sunday, Oct. 29. The celebration will begin with a concert by the band Kist by Grace starting at 4 p.m.

A Historical Column From The Fayette County Historical Commission The following story was taken from the book Dubina, A Place of Freedom and Hope by Ed and Margie Janecka. Frantisek (Frank) Sugarek was born on Jan. 22, 1819 in house #22 in Kuncicky Ubasky, Moravia. He married Barbora Simicek.

Retired Teachers attend district conference

The District 13 Retired Teachers’ Association Fall Conference was held on Thursday, Sept. 21, at the San Marcos Activity Center in San Marcos, with 83 in attendance, including three from Fayette County. They were Karen Fitch, Chris Morrison and Melanie Mica.

Winedale to host talk by Lippman on Jewish settlers in Fayette Co.

Winedale Historic Site’s next online lunch-and-learn program will be on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at noon. Historian Sheldon Lippman, the immediate past president and an active member of the Texas Jewish Historical Society, will present “The Comings and Goings of a Jewish Community in Fayette County.

Debbi Gabler of La Grange has been selected to receive the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild’s “Cut Above” award. This annual award is voted on by CVQG members. Gabler, a charter member, has been with the Guild since the beginning.
