Animal Shelter statistics

As of Oct. 6, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 1,322 for the year– 622 dogs and 700 cats in need. As of Oct. 6, the shelter had 124 animals in its care – 70 dogs and 54 cats.

‘Prayer in Pink’ service set Oct. 22 at St. James MBC

CCA Meals

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Please call 979-743-4036 two weeks in advance for the meals, which will be delivered to the homebound or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Second Chance donates to Animal Shelter

Second Chance Emporium (SCE) recently donated $ 12,500 to the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS). Monies donated will be used for the realignment of the existing outdoor play area for dogs. This will allow the shelter to have more dogs out for exercise at one time.

Local Food Pantry gets donation from H-E-B La Grange

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry has received a generous donation from the H-E-B La Grange location’s “Helping Here” campaign. Monetary donations are used to keep an assortment of food and household items on the Food Pantry’s shelves.

Benefit dinner for Nicole Prasek slated Oct. 8

A benefit drive-through dinner for Nicole Prasek will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3403 U.S. Highway 90 East, hosted by Koopmann Catering. Plates are $12 each and will include hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, roll and cookies.

Grant applications being taken by Sparklight

Sparklight is accepting fall 2023 applications from Oct. 1-31 for the company’s Charitable Giving Fund, which annually awards $250,000 in grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
