Eldrid Florence Schilhab

Eldrid Florence Schilhab, 89, of Bay City passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021. She was born Nov. 8, 1931 in Schulenburg to the late Beno Besetsny and Agnes Konvicka Besetsny. Eldrid was born and raised in Schulenburg on the family farm which instilled in her a love for country life.

Alma Dolezal Dusek • 1928-2020

Alma Dolezal Dusek was born on July 25, 1928 to Jim and Cecelia Dolezal. She graduated from La Grange High School She married Cyril Dusek on May 19, 1946 at Ammannsville. They were blessed with two children, Ron and Peggy, and spent their whole married life in Fayette County.

Martha ‘Marty’ Gunby

Martha “Marty” Gunby (nee Biehl) passed away at the age of 102 years on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020. She was born in Miami, Fla. on Oct. 12, 1918. Before moving to be with her son in Schulenburg, in 2016 Marty had lived in Satellite Beach, Fla. for 38 years.

Diane Frances Polnick McCuan

Diane Frances Polnick McCuan, 70, of Schulenburg, passed away on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020. Diane was born on Oct, 4, 1950 to Annie and Gilbert Polnick in Houston. After graduating from Sam Houston High School in 1969 Diane married her high school sweetheart Wayne W. McCuan II on June 14,1970.

Evelyn A. (Mendel) Lamza

Evelyn A. (Mendel) Lamza, 83, of Houston, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Hostyn. Born in Schulenburg on April 9, 1937, she was the daughter of Henry and Adela (Gassman) Mendel.

Regina Fisher Gilbreath

Regina Fisher Gilbreath passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020 due to COVID-19. She was 90 and a resident at Eden Hill Nursing Home in New Braunfels. Regina was born Oct. 23, 1930 in Fayette County to John and Vlasta Fisher.

David Husmann Celebration of Life

The David Husmann family invites everyone to a celebration of Coach Husmann’s life on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. at Shorthorn Stadium in Schulenburg. There will be special seating for his former players. In case of inclement weather, the memorial will be moved to the pavilion at Wolters Park.

Alton Emil Demel

Alton Emil Demel, 94, of Schulenburg, passed away on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020. He was born on Nov. 18, 1926 in High Hill to Emil and Emilie Blaschke Demel and was married to Hilda Belcik Demel, his loving wife for over 70 years.

Annie Fietsam

Annie Carolyn (Kainer) FIetsam died on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, following a short illness. She was 84 years old. Annie was born at home near High Hill on Jan. 12, 1936. Her parents were Joseph and Anna (Klesel) Kainer. She was the youngest of seven siblings. The family spoke German at home.

David Husmann Celebration of Life
